Based on our workshop motto "‘Take a look beneath our surface’", our team provided an age-appropriate illustration of the physical, chemical and technical properties that make Hueck Folien's surface coatings so special. The various stations on light and optics, renewable energies and chemistry offered the young scientists exciting insights and practical experience in physics, chemistry and technology.
The fascination of light & optics
At the ‘Light & Optics’ workstation, the children explored topics such as light refraction, light diffraction and holograms. Fascinating optical effects were visualised through practical experiments with our foils, threads and strips, which are used in banknotes and documents. The children worked with microscopes and UV light. This session not only sparked an interest in physical phenomena, but also showed how they are used in the real world and contribute to the highest level of counterfeit protection for banknotes.
Renewable energies and sustainability
Sustainability is a central focus at Hueck Folien. In this session, the children learnt how renewable energies are used and how they can make an important contribution to sustainability. The children learnt how solar cells work and how energy can be generated from sunlight. Their task was subsequently to utilise solar energy for a model they had built themselves. They were also given an insight into the professions of mechatronics engineer and electrical engineer.
Experience chemistry
In the ‘Chemistry’ session, the children were able to explore the world of paint and lacquer. Equipped with lab coats, safety glasses and protective gloves, they carried out exciting chemical experiments and learnt how different substances react with each other. They experimented with simple everyday household substances such as beetroot powder and corn starch. These practical experiments provided the children with a basic understanding of chemical processes.
Supporting the youngest is a special endeavour for Hueck Folien. Events such as the Children's Day encourage kids' curiosity and can sustainably foster their interest in science and related professions. We are delighted to be part of this event, to inspire children for STEM disciplines and to give them the opportunity to discover the world as their own laboratory.
